LOS ANGELES (TNA) – Dana DeArmond, 28, unapologetically defies the stereotype that porn actresses use only their bodies and not their brains.
DeArmond dabbles in Freudian psychoanalysis, knows the proper use of “who” and “whom” and, though she dropped out of college, has lectured at the University of California, Irvine on the adult industry.
“God I’m smart for a whore!” she exclaimed sarcastically during an April 4 chat with Naughty America.
However, DeArmond confessed she does take offense when people tell her she should have stayed in school, or that she’s too smart for porn.
“I get offended because I really like what I do,” she explained. “Formal education is not something that I prefer. I actually went to college and I decided it wasn’t for me. I didn’t want to stay in school just to please my parents. I wanted to do something that made me happy.
“And for a long time that was drinking,” she laughed.
Eventually, DeArmond went straight-edge and got down to work. She entered the porn industry in 2004 and has since made a successful career out of having sex on film.
DeArmond and her boyfriend Daniel, who also works in the adult industry, have starred in several films together. In 2007, however, the pair endured some tough times when their home went up in flames, taking most of their possessions with it.
“My neighbor burned it down,” she said. “She was a drunken hippie.”
But the adult industry pulled together, raising money to help DeArmond make it through.
“Naughty America sent me a donation,” she said. “So even though I lost everything, I was fine. I bought some panties and some new jeans. It was OK.”
DeArmond is back on her feet now, and despite a busy shooting schedule, she still finds time to keep up on her reading.
“On my CD player in my car right now,” she said. “I have on audio a book called ‘Guns, Germs and Steel.’ It’s really interesting, and yes, I know I’m geeky.”
But DeArmond doesn’t spend all her time playing video games and delving into the history of the Spanish Conquistadors. She also maintains a healthy sex life at home, though she admits that dirty talk has never been one of her strengths.
“One time,” she recounted, “I told Daniel during sex that I wanted him to cut my head off and fuck my neck hole. It was pretty weird.”
