LOS ANGELES (TNA) – In the upcoming romantic comedy “27 Dresses,” Katherine Heigl’s character is always the bridesmaid, never the bride.
But it’s Heigl’s on-screen sidekick, actress Judy Greer, who can certainly relate to her leading lady.

“I’m always the best friend, never the leading lady,” Greer says, “but I’ve never really minded – it’s been an amazing experience.”
But sure enough, the tides may be turning for this go-to gal. Greer recently scored the lead in the new ABC comedy “Miss/Guided,” which premieres later this year and chronicles the adventures of a naïve but well-meaning guidance counselor and the students she mentors.
“Every day I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I got my own show,’” she giggles. “I always wanted to be on a really good show, it didn’t matter if it was mine or not.”
But it is all hers, and Greer is still pinching herself over the new gig – even though she’s a little bummed that she doesn’t get her own sidekick to help her tackle television.
“I don’t have a best friend on the show, but hopefully I become friends with Brooke Burns’ character,” she says. “It’s ironic I didn’t have a go-to friend written in for me!”
Although she loves her role as make-believe friend to the stars, Greer admits her real-life buddies get a bit jealous over the bonds she’s forged with so many of today’s hot actresses.
“I get friends that joke around and are like, ‘Are you going to hang out with Jennifer Garner now? Are you going to chill with Katherine Heigl?’” she says with a grin. “I’m like, ‘I don’t know…I mean, if they randomly call me up and I have nothing better to do that night.’”
Although she may not be buddy-buddy with her on-screen girlfriends, Greer says she does keep in touch with Garner, with whom she appeared in the chick-flick “13 Going On 30.”
“On top of being friends, she’s such a great example of a good person with a career I’d like to emulate and a life I’d like to emulate,” gushes the starlet. “She’s really managed to take time for herself and stay out of the media. She’s really together and a good mom and fiercely devoted to her family.”
Although she hasn’t sent copies of the pilot to any of her actress pals, Greer says her real friends are excited about seeing her on TV.
“Lots of friends have watched the pilot and they’re like, ‘You’re not even acting – you’re just being yourself,’” she says.
