Mexican Porn Celebs Speak Out On Cinco de Mayo

LOS ANGELES (TNA) – Cinco de Mayo has become a distinctly American holiday.
Yes, it has its roots in Mexican military history, but in the hands of Mexico’s rowdy northern neighbor, the originally regional holiday is now a national drinking fest celebrating not only the Battle of Puebla, but Mexican culture in general.

Among those to benefit from American’s love of all things Mexican are porn celebs like Evie Delatosso, who has found a lucrative place in the adult film industry playing the sexy Latin seductress.
“There’s a lot of demand for Latinas in this industry,” she said. “Because of my distinctly Mexican look, it’s been pretty easy for me to land a lot of roles.”
However, Delatosso admitted her ethnicity hasn’t always been an asset.
“The problem is that there are a lot of stereotypes about Mexicans, and Latinos in general, that the porn business tends to play into,” she explained. “For example, I’ve been typecast a lot in the sort of ‘ghetto’ Latina role. You have to wear the big jewelry and the skanky outfits.”
Strangely enough, the other stereotype Delatosso has portrayed in porn stands in stark contrast to the ghetto role.
“I’ve also done the ‘classic’ Mexican look,” she said. “The one where they make you wear those big, white, fluffy cotton dresses worn in traditional Mexican culture.”
Repeatedly assuming these roles wouldn’t bother Delatosso as much if not for the fact that, according to her, she doesn’t really fit into most stereotypes.

“Me and my family aren’t a very typical Mexican family,” she said, adding that they don’t even celebrate Cinco de Mayo.
However, Delatosso says she understands why Cinco de Mayo is a much bigger deal in the United States than in Mexico, where the holiday, which commemorates a Mexican victory over the French in 1862, goes virtually uncelebrated.
“I think Mexican-Americans make a big deal about Cinco de Mayo precisely because they’re away from their home country,” she said, “so they take every opportunity to show their pride. The thing I don’t care for is that for many Americans, it’s just an excuse to get drunk and party.”
Cinco de Mayo’s transformation into a drinking holiday is yet another example of American pop culture banking on Mexican stereotypes, Delatosso added.
But others, like veteran male porn actor Marcos Leon, believe Mexican stereotypes aren’t such a bad thing.
“I think that because of my looks, I do get cast in the typical ‘Latin Lover’ role a lot of the time,” Leon said. “And I don’t really mind playing that role at all. You get to wear the black suits and you get to express your more romantic side.
“I enjoy it because I think that’s actually part of who I am,” he added. “Even before getting into the porn business, I was already like that.”
Meantime, Leon does his best to uphold the Mexican male’s reputation of being fiery in the sack.

“Mexican men are definitely more passionate in bed,” he said. “What I like to do is switch it up. I can go rough when the moment’s right for that, but I can also be very sensual and loving.”
In fact, his ethnicity played a role in landing his first porn gig, Leon explained.
“I got into porn five years ago when I answered an ad for a shoot,” he said. “They were searching for someone exactly with my look.”
Once the directors decided Leon fit the part, they put him to the test right then and there.
“They had a hot girl just sitting there on the couch,” he recalled. “And they flat-out asked me, ‘Can you get your dick hard?’ I said, ‘Hell, yeah!’”
Leon then gave an exceptional performance, providing the directors with plenty of hard proof that Mexicans have no trouble getting fired up and ready when it comes to sex.
Though Leon grew up in Los Angeles, his parents never let him forget his roots. They made sure he learned Spanish at an early age and celebrated Mexican holidays with relatives and friends.
So for Leon, Cinco de Mayo remains a family affair – not a huge public drinking fest.
“I think Mexicans are very family-oriented and very proud of their traditions,” he said. “In LA, me and my family celebrated Cinco de Mayo by having dinner together, some music and, of course, a few drinks. But I’m not really into the big parades or the big parties.”
Leon was quick to add, however, that if people did decide to turn the holiday into a big drinking fest, it was no skin off his back. If it becomes an excuse for some to get completely plastered off of cases of Corona Light, he said, to each his own.
Porn actress Sophia Lomeli shamelessly admits that, for her, Cinco de Mayo serves that exact purpose.
“I have a huge family,” Lomeli said. “And we celebrate real big on Cinco de Mayo. I’ve always seen it as basically an excuse to party. We usually have live mariachi music, traditional Folklorico dancers who perform at the party, and a lot of drinking.

“We can drink a lot,” she added. “I think that’s another big part of being Mexican. We know how to hold our liquor and we know how to throw a party.”
Despite Lomeli’s love of Mexican party culture, she admitted that growing up, she never understood exactly what Cinco de Mayo meant.
“I knew it was a drinking thing, but I didn’t really know why,” she said, adding that, until very recently, she held the common misconception that Cinco de Mayo commemorated Mexico’s Independence, which actually falls on Sept. 16.
But regardless of holiday specifics, Lomeli says playing the role of the Latin temptress in her films remains her favorite part of the job.
“I love being cast as the exotic Latina,” she said. “One of my favorite scenes I’ve done was for Latin Adultery. I played the Latin girl who seduces and fucks the married man.”
Lomeli said she didn’t mind being singled out because of her ethnicity.
“I think it’s something to be proud of,” she said. “Something that makes you different [from the rest].”
