Each week she’ll speak with a different star about lust, love, porn, and naughtiness.
This week: Nikki Rhodes

Rhodes, who has also performed under the name 'Nikki Coxxx,' entered the business by doing hair and makeup for other actresses.
The Naughty American: How long have you been in the industry?
Nikki Rhodes: I’ve been in since April 2006. I’ve been off and on since then. There’s been twice that I’ve stopped for a while.
NR: The first time I stopped, I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to do it. I thought long and hard for a few months and I was like, “You know what? I like doing it!” I came back, got a different agency and I was much happier.
TNA: How did you get into the industry?
NR: I had a few friends that were already in the industry and I do hair and makeup. I’ve also been an extra on a few porn films before because I did a lot of acting. They said, “Just try it and if you like it keep doing it.” I didn’t expect to like it, but I actually loved it. So, it’s fun.
TNA: Did you go into the entertainment business straight out of high school?
NR: Since I was about 13 I’ve been doing acting classes and trying to get into modeling. I graduated early, when I was 15. I started going to college then. I’ve been doing a variety of different things, not mostly entertainment. Recently for the past three to four years it has been mostly entertainment.
TNA: What do you like most about being in the industry?
NR: I like more of the glamour and acting side, sort of like just the features. I’m more into that. I like to make art of what I do, not have a gonzo mentality. I’m not into that as much. I just like to make art. I think it’s a beautiful thing.
TNA: Are you a very artsy person?
NR: Yeah. I like to be creative. I have a vivid imagination.
TNA: Did you go to cosmetology school to do hair and makeup?
NR: Yes. I did that and took extra classes about doing makeup because I love doing makeup. It’s just so much fun! It’s amazing when you have a blank canvas what you can do.
TNA: My little sister loves to do makeup and she’s very good at it, but as for me, no. I can’t do makeup at all. It sucks because all my female cousins have the talent to do it except for me. I’m always like, “Can you do my makeup when you’re done?”
NR: That’s how my younger sister is. I totally understand.

Rhodes is proud of her red hair and wants to make her hair color a more mainstream niche in porn.
TNA: I can do the simple stuff, but when it comes down to making it look cute, no.
NR: You’re funny!
TNA: What else do you like to do in your free time? Do you like to go out clubbing?
NR: I’m actually a homebody. I’d rather sit at home and watch movies or go to the movies. I read a lot, it just depends on what book I find or someone recommends. I also do charcoal drawings. I’m pretty much a homebody.
TNA: That’s cool.
NR: I get paid to host parties, like, a lot. Plus, I live in Vegas and they always invite me out for business and stuff. So, once I get free time I don’t want to go to the club.
TNA: I understand. It’s your job to go out and mingle with people.
NR: Exactly.
TNA: What kind of movies are you into?
NR: I love horror movies a lot. Those have been, like, my all-time favorite. Comedy would be next. I just love the special effects that you can do nowadays. Some of it is done with computers, but some of it is not and I really like it. I like it when a movie can challenge me and make me think and then it twists at the end. You know what type of movies I’m talking about? Like, “Butterfly Effect.” It’s awesome.
TNA: That movie is a trip.
NR: Yeah! I love movies like that and it’s hard to find movies like that.
TNA: Are you into the new gory type of movies like “The Ruins” and “Turistas”?
NR: Some of them are OK. I mean, some of it is just a bit too fake for me. “Hostel” was pretty good. I like it when they keep you on the edge of your seat.
TNA: What kind of music do you listen to?
NR: That depends on my mood. Sometimes it’s like Nine Inch Nails and Slipknot. Sometimes it can be Eminem. Sometimes I even listen to Aqua, which is very poppy music. It just depends on my mood and what I’m doing. If I want to dance I’ll listen to something I can dance to.
TNA: What kind of music puts you in the mood to have sex?
NR: Oh gosh. I definitely like Nine Inch Nails and Korn songs, not the ones they use at all the strip clubs. There are a few songs that they do have that I don’t hear there, that I really like. Sometimes if you’re in the mood maybe a slow song, but those are kind of played out. I’d rather listen to a hardcore song like Nine Inch Nails.
TNA: What turns you on and what turns you off?
NR: A turn-on is definitely a lot of kissing and playful teasing. In a sense, where in my neck area there’s a lot of nibbling and kissing. That’s definitely a turn-on. A turn-off is probably bad hygiene or rudeness.
TNA: There aren’t that many redheads in the industry. Do you think that’s one of the reasons for your success?
NR: I hope that’s an advantage I have up on everyone because I’m not the typical blonde hair with big boobs or the brunette with big boobs. I feel that because I’m a redhead and all natural I do have sort of an edge. I’m also very petite, that’s also a category I have a little niche for. I’m hoping that I can get it more mainstream as an adult, more than it is already.
TNA: It would be nice. You don’t see that many redheads.
NR: I’m not saying I’m beautiful, but I’ve seen a few that aren’t so cute and I’m like, “I know you’re a natural redhead and you’re trying to represent, but no.” There are a few in the industry that are pretty cute though. I’m just glad that there’s more besides me. We can show them that not everybody has to be blonde or brunette.
TNA: That’s true. I have a huge weakness for hot redheads. Like Prince Harry, oh my gosh! He drives me crazy. Anyway, are you into both men and women?
NR: Yes, I am.
TNA: For relationships? Or is it just purely sexual with the women?
NR: I’ve had relationships with women. Mostly my relationships with men have been serious. I really don’t date “date,” I guess you can say. It’s usually a serious relationship with a man. The girl, I’ll just randomly date. Some of them can’t handle what I do. You’d think it would be the guys, but the girls are really weird about it. If they start to get catty then I have to break away from that. They don’t like attention when I get attention, it’s kind of weird.
TNA: What do you look for in a guy?
NR: For a guy I definitely want him to be really tall because I’m 5-[foot]-1. I like dark hair and light eyes. I like a nice shaped body, not too much muscle. I think that’s a turn-off.
TNA: What do you look for in a female?
NR: For women, I kind of like them to be a little bit taller than me, but not over-towering. Funny and with a good attitude.
TNA: What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
NR: My whole life is crazy! Come on now, I never thought I’d do porn! I guess it would depend on what you define as crazy. To me, defeating all the odds and living every day is crazy. You never know. I don’t really do anything crazy “crazy.” I don’t skydive or anything like that. That would be crazy. Life is crazy, everything I do is crazy.
TNA: What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever done?
NR: In the industry, I would have to say doing a guy with a strap-on in his butt. That was the weirdest thing I’ve ever done. I don’t think I’ll ever repeat it. It was just weird. Plus, I had to demean him and diminish him as a person and that’s not my character. So, that was the weirdest thing.
TNA: Was it a dominatrix scene?
NR: Yeah, it was bizarre! I think dealing with people when they say, “I know you from somewhere, but I don’t know where.” That’s kind of weird and awkward to have that conversation in real life because I look like the girl next door and it’s not easy to say, “Oh, I do porn.” I usually say, “Oh, I model.” I think that’s the weirdest conversation to have outside of the industry.
TNA: Yeah, because you know exactly where they’ve seen you.
NR: Yeah, but you don’t want to say to the bag boy bagging your groceries, “Yeah, you know me from this.” It’s just random.
TNA: Do you have a best friend in the industry?
NR: The only person I’m really close to in the industry is Rocco Reed. Pretty much, I talk to him on a daily basis. I just have more acquaintances than close friends. That’s pretty much it with people I’m really close to. I try not to get too close because it’s like high school. People start rumors and spread things that aren’t true because they’re catty and jealous. I keep my distance.
TNA: Have you had to deal with any crazy fanatics or stalkers?
NR: Stalkers, yes! It’s weird because I don’t know how my number got out, but, like, two guys have gotten my number and they call from a private number. So, now I just don’t answer private numbers or unavailable calls. I don’t answer those anymore because somehow a random fan got a hold of my number. I think it’s a little weird on MySpace, when they know I’m going to do an event, they’ll go to the event and follow me around and I’ll have to be escorted out because they’re following me to my car. So, I have had my share of stalkers. I usually block them if I can on MySpace.
TNA: As a porn celebrity are you more aware of what you wear before you leave your home? Do you dress knowing you’re going to be recognized in public?
NR: No. I dress normal. Unless I’m going to something adult then I won’t look like that. I’m not an attention whore. I’m a normal person. I get paid to have sex for a living.
TNA: On a more personal level, when did you lose your virginity?
NR: When I was 15. It was to my high school boyfriend, who was captain of the football team.
TNA: Were you a cheerleader?
NR: I was a cheerleader, but not when we were dating.
TNA: Do you still talk to him?
NR: No. He turned out to be an ass. He dumped me two months later. I don’t regret it.
TNA: Does your family know about what you’re doing?
NR: Yes they do. I was planning to tell them, but someone had told them before I did. They were very surprised considering my educational background, but they love and support me no matter what I do. It’s a little awkward when we want to talk about work subjects.
TNA: Are you in a relationship right now?
NR: No.
TNA: Is it a turn-off when someone you’re interested in happens to be a fan?
NR: That did happen to me once and it was a little weird. It was weird because it seemed like they were watching my stuff more than they were into me. It’s weird dating someone when they’re like, “I saw you do this. Why don’t we do that?” It’s like, “That’s my alter ego. Yeah, we can do something similar, but …” It does not work. It’s not going to work. People don’t understand when they’re not in the industry how different it is.
TNA: Do you find it hard to be in a relationship because of your job?
NR: Yes and no. I haven’t really been wanting to date for the past year. There is one person I’m seeing now, but it’s not serious. Every guy I meet, once they find out what I do it’s always about them. That’s when I’m turned off and I’m like, “Buh bye!” There’s more to me than that.
TNA: What has been your best and worst date ever?
NR: My best date was when my ex took me to Coronado and we went for a walk along the beach and he got me wine. He was throwing a fit because they gave us plastic cups, but to me it was like the most memorable date I’ve ever had. It was a beautiful thing and he was like my best friend. It was amazing. The worst date was when I went on a blind date. He was very touchy feely with me and he went to kiss me and I backed away. It was really weird because he thought I was easy. Other than that, I don’t date much because of crazy guys.
TNA: I understand. I don’t like to date either.
NR: It’s just hard.
TNA: It is. Before I get started on how much I dislike dating, is there someone in the porn industry that you look up to?
NR: Jenna Haze. I got to sit down and talk to her a few weeks ago and I learned so much about her in one conversation. I envy her. All the goals I want to accomplish in the industry she was naming them and she’s doing it. I was like, “OK. Cool!” She is someone I can see myself looking up to in the industry. I don’t really sit down and talk to most girls in the industry, that’s why it’s hard for me to say. But I talked to her.
TNA: Who do you think are the hottest male and female in porn? Who would you like to do a scene with?
NR: Even though Rocco is a good friend, I haven’t done a scene with him, so Rocco Reed would be the guy. For a girl, Eva Angelina.
TNA: Yeah, they’re both hot.
NR: I did a scene for Naughty America with her, but I didn’t get to be with just her. It was with one guy and four girls.
TNA: Oh I know that one, it was for Naughty Athletics.
NR: Yeah. I just wish it was more one-on-one because I really like her work.
TNA: I think she’s a pretty person.
NR: Yeah.
TNA: Do you have any hidden talents?
NR: I’m a very good artist. I don’t know.
TNA: How about something people don’t know about you?
NR: I speak French. I’m a master of color for hair. I like chemistry, so I mastered in that when I did cosmetology.

Rhodes admits she has the hots for Eva Angelina and hopes to do a one-on-one scene with her soon.
TNA: Chemistry?
NR: I don’t why it’s so fascinating to me. I really do like it.
TNA: Would you date a fellow porn star?
NR: Yeah. That’s actually who I’m dating. Or kind of dating. It’s hard because it’s awkward. Yeah, our job is our job, but it’s still awkward. It’s not a normal relationship even still.
TNA: I bet it’s hard. I don’t know how I would deal.
NR: It’s kind of nice because it’s not a sexual relationship and I feel that if he wasn’t in the industry that’s what it would be based on. So, basically I know he’s listening to me.
TNA: Well, you guys are all sexed out from work.
NR: Yeah! So we just cuddle.
TNA: What do you feel has been the highlight of your career, so far?
NR: I actually feel like it’s just getting started. My name is getting bigger and bigger, so I can’t really complain. I’m still learning a lot. There’s so much out there that I still haven’t done, that I’m eager to learn more about. That’s my biggest thing … I learn more before I do anything, so that way I know I’ll do a good scene. If I’m uncomfortable with it, then it won’t be a good scene. I research a lot.
TNA: How many tattoos do you have?
NR: I have five.
TNA: What’s your favorite tattoo?
NR: They all mean something to me. I have one on my stomach. It’s rather large. It’s a shooting star. It’s not finished, but I’m not going to finish it until I get out of the industry because it’s really huge. It means a lot to me because I can’t have children and that’s like my wish-upon-a-star. My ring finger was my engagement ring. They all mean something to me.
TNA: You were engaged?
NR: Yes.
TNA: What happened?
NR: He passed away last year because of his diabetes and that was the second reason I stopped for six months because I couldn’t deal with it. That’s why I don’t date.
TNA: I’m sorry. That must be hard.
NR: It’s been a rough year, but I’m determined to make this year a lot better than last year. So far, it looks good!
TNA: Good for you!
NR: It’s made me stronger as a person, I can tell you that. I’m accomplishing my goals.
