This week: Rhyse Richards espouses the joys of being an animal person.

I am definitely an animal person. I have been ever since I got my first cat when I was 7. His name was Smokey because he was a little gray cat.

Little doggies get their feelings hurt -- just like people.

I take animal rights very seriously. I am a member of PETA and I only eat meat that is raised free range—such as chicken. I haven’t eaten red meat for five years, ever since I saw a documentary with Pam Anderson called “Meet Your Meat.”

Basically, I try not to eat anything that’s been raised in a way that would cause pain to an animal.

I have five dogs and two cats. I’d have 15 dogs if I could. My dogs are all Chihuahuas, except for one that’s a Chihuahua-basenji mix. I found him caged in the back of a truck in a Wal-Mart parking lot. It broke my heart so I offered the owners money to let me take him off their hands.

It’s funny I have Chihuahuas because I never liked them before. I usually like big dogs. Little dogs are a tremendous responsibility.

People don’t realize that little doggies are more work than big doggies. They get their feelings hurt—just like people.

Being in adult films sometimes takes me away from them so I pay a girl to babysit them and walk them three times a day when I’m gone.

My two cats are the last of a litter of seven that I found when their mom was hit by a car.

They were just an hour old and the vet told me they were going to die. But I fed them with a bottle and my old dog let them nurse on her even though she didn’t have any milk so they would learn how to suck.

They all survived – which is amazing considering this happened in 1991.

My pets are good judges of character. If I bring a date home and they don’t like him, the relationship won’t work out. My dog Abbey is the one I trust most. If she doesn’t like someone, she gives them dirty looks.

My step-sister, Rhylee Richards, and I live together and she keeps insisting we get a pot-bellied pig. I love pigs, but I have to draw the line somewhere.
