SAN DIEGO (TNA) – It’s one of those rare rainy nights in San Diego, but at least one Lane in the city is Sunny.

But the Lane in question isn’t a street, it’s porn star Sunny Lane, who is currently undertaking what she calls the “Girl Next Door Tour 2008” that will take her to more than 180 separate Déjà Vu, Hustler, Showgirls and Dreamgirls’  clubs and love boutiques in the U.S. and abroad.

Sunny Lane has her G-strings specially made -- and makes sure she masturbates for at least five minutes in every pair.

She’s very proud of the honor as she is Déjà vu’s first ever contract feature star.

On this Saturday night, she’s actually in a suburb of San Diego called “El Cajon,” which means “the box” in Spanish.

Of course, on this night, only one box matters to Lane’s fans: hers.

Lane – who has been called “the Shirley Temple of X” for her cheerful disposition – has a 100-watt smile on her face at all times, even as the locals, who aren’t used to any kind of precipitation,  grumble about the persistent drizzle.

She’s also wearing wings. Purple wings to be exact, and they match her purple top, black hot pants and black high heels perfectly. So much so that it looks like she coordinated the outfit while planning the tour.

Not the case, it turns out.

“Bob, the in-house photographer, had them in his studio downstairs,” she said, pointing to him standing over in the background. “They go with my outfit, so I thought I’d wear them.”

Certainly, the wings are fitting, since Lane’s white skin and fresh-faced good looks make her resemble one of the angels appearing in religious paintings from the renaissance.

“It’s interesting you say that,” she says. “I love the Renaissance. I loved how they talked back then and I loved the bell dresses from that period.”

The Renaissance was a time of rediscovery and reinvention, and that is something that appeals to Lane’s soul, since that’s what got her into porn in the first place four years ago.

Before Lane went into porn, she was a top-ranked professional ice skater with her eyes on making the U.S. Olympic team.

“My coaches had worked with Olympians,” she says, adding that one highlight of her skating career included a 45-minute conversation with her idol Kristi Yamaguchi.

Lane's angelic smile and personality have earned the nickname of 'The Shirley Temple of Porn.'
“It was a dream come true,” Lane reminisces. “Like me, she was super small, very goal-oriented AND talented.”

Sadly for Lane, her Olympic skating dreams melted away when bunion surgery made it impossible for her to skate at the World Class level. Still, she admires Yamaguchi, but admits the chances of reigniting their brief friendship are slim.

“We’re in different worlds,” Lane shrugs.

The jump from skating to sex began for Lane when she decided to apply her natural showmanship to feature dancing in Tampa, Fla.

Taking advantage of her girl-next-door looks, Lane dressed as a tennis player, complete with bobby socks and had a good racket going. In the process, she spent stints working at the Moonlight Bunny Ranch near Carson City, Nev., and dated owner Dennis Hof.

But it was at an AVN Oscar party hosted by porn actor Sean Michaels where Lane got her big break. On that evening, Playboy officials saw her tattoo-free, all-natural body and after seeing her great personality convinced Lane she was a natural for the mag.

“In skating, tattoos are not looked fond of,” Lane says. “I had a clean canvas and that appealed to Playboy.”

Execs hired her to work for Playboy Radio, then on to the popular “Night Calls” TV show with Julie Ashton and Tiffany Granite.

Then in 2005, she made her first sex film: “P.O.V. Fantasies” for New Sensations.

“I got in the business at the right time,” she says. “It’s really being accepted by the mainstream these days. People realize sex sells. We are all coming together.”

Speaking of coming: At this moment, a middle-aged couple comes up wanting to say hi to Lane and have their picture taken with her. Actually, the woman prefers to let the guy have Lane all to himself. Lane sunnily obliges by stretching her right leg up to his shoulder so that what she calls her “sweet peach” —her pet name for her vagina—is close to his crotch.

The woman cheers. The couple leaves satisfied.

“You can tell they have an open-minded relationship,” she says. “That woman was OK with me being close to him and enjoyed seeing the picture. That’s a good sign.”

For Lane, it’s also a good sign that her name is recognized by both men and women. She credits this to the work she has done to get her name out in the mainstream through shows like “ABC Primetime With John Quinones,” which ran a profile on her early in 2007.

Although the piece aroused some controversy because it showed how closely involved Lane’s parents are with her career, Lane has no regrets.

When Sunny Lane had bunion surgery, the world lost an Olympic-quality ice skater, but gained a world-class porn star.

“My parents never turned their back on me,” she emphasizes. “People who know me know the real story. My parents have been there for me all my life. They hired skating coaches, trainers, paid for the costumes, so why should that be different now?

“I own my own company. I’m happy and isn’t that all that our parents want for us? I can trust them,” she adds. “Plus, I think people are media-savvy these days and know how editing can affect how a story is told.

“People are open-minded in this day and age, and the people who do not get it: Stop and think and be open-minded about life.”

For all the controversy the ABC piece aroused Lane says it also gave her the mainstream attention she believes will help take her to the next level: Porn superstardom.

“That story helped me get this Déjà vu contract – the first of its kind,” she says.

Lane approaches her porn career with the same intensity and drive as her skating career.

“When I started doing this, I decided I wanted to become one of the big names in adult entertainment,” she says. “You could say I still have the competitive drive from my skating days. Still, I make it a point to look up to the veterans in this industry, like Ron Jeremy and Jenna Jameson, and I ask myself, ‘How do they do it?’”

Lane has gone so far to pick the brain of people like Jeremy and ask him how he keeps his passion for porn after all these years.

“It’s all about being real,” Lane says. “It’s taking the time to enjoy what you do.”

And Lane loves it. She takes pride in the 13 awards she’s won during her porn career. In fact, every one of them is on her mantel under a giant neon sun – for Sunny, in case you don’t get the reference.

“They’re all placed in the order I received them,” she says. “I love them all.”

However, if pressed, she admits the first one she received—for “Best New Starlet” – is extra special.

Luckily for her fans, the one thing Lane loves more than her awards is sex itself. One of the reasons why Lane has gained a following with both men and women is that her on-screen orgasms are real.

“I never fake my orgasms. They’re all real. You can see my face get flushed and the goosebumps on my body as I cum.”

But, it turns out, the cameras haven’t been there during some of Lane’s hottest performances.

“Back when I was living in Florida, I was at Disney World with my boyfriend at the time,” she says, letting the set up sink in, before continuing.

“We were on Splash Mountain and he had his hand on my leg and started caressing.” She takes a moment to demonstrate the motion. “Then he started playing with my breast. I thought, ‘Is he really doing this?’ But I really liked it.

“Then he put his hand down my pants and my pussy was dripping wet. Then, as he started fingering me, I started rubbing his cock and jerking him and jerking him. And I came as we started going down the ride and SO DID HE!”

Still, while Lane ets hot thinking about that memory, she says she gets just as hot filming fictional scenes. For instance, she was very pleased with a recent scene she filmed for a new NaughtyAmerica.com site IHaveAWife.com, which centers on younger women who seduce older married men.

“The scene features [male porn star] Christian and I in a little bathroom at a L.A. bar,” Lane says. “It was dark and cramped, but that just made the sex hotter.”

For Lane, a good scene has to have a good role, good partner as well as good sex.

“I get great pleasure reading a script and getting into character,” she says. And while her girl-next-door looks might limit her acting choices in mainstream movies, she enjoys the range of characters she gets to play in porn films.

“I like changing my look,” she says. “I was a detective in ‘She Bangs,’ and I’m a horny horticulturist in ‘Goo Girls No. 26,’ which I’m proud to say won the AVN award this year for Best P.O.V. Scene.”

Lane says preparing for a scene involves more than getting into character. It also involves getting a rise out of her onscreen partner.

“I really strive for an eye connection. It’s important to leave the outside business and focus on touching, caressing and intimacy,” she says. “Of course, some guys have their own routine. For instance, I did a shoot for Elegant Angel with Manuel Ferrara, and he just likes to attack me, so sometimes you just go with that.

“I’m a very strong woman and sometimes it’s nice to be taken over like that.”

At that moment, Lane chooses to demonstrate how she helps her co-stars get into the mood, by flirting, touching my leg, and playing with my hair – all while explaining each movement and its usual effect on the co-star. When my face turns redder than ketchup, the lesson ends.

Lane is proud that she has never faked an orgasm on screen or in real life.
“After I’ve worked them into the mood, I go over the dos and don’ts with them – and then it’s time to rock their world.”

Taken and noted.

Lane is enjoying the public attention, and is hoping to utilize what she’s learned as a performer and start directing films herself. She has a definite viewpoint on how she wants to her porn to look.

“My films would be pretty fancy, and very intense and moody while being crisp clean and fresh,” she says, adding that she hopes to start adding her take on screen sex soon at www.sunnylanelive.com, where she is doing weekly Web shows.

She’s got a lot on her table, but she is planning on directing her own scenes even while she’s on tour at the Deja Vu dance clubs.

“Since I’m the `Shirley Temple of X,’ I’m wearing a sailor outfit and dancing to ‘On The Good Ship Lollipop,’” she says excitedly. “I also dress up as an American Woman with a sailor outfit and an outfit previously worn by Britney Spears.

“You remember when she performed in a tux and ripped it off to expose a nude pants and top? I’m wearing that exact outfit, the one that was underneath the tux and IT MAKES ME LOOK NAKED!!”

Lane also dresses up as a schoolgirl, but the highlight just might be the boxing routine she does to “Let’s Get Physical.”

It’s going to be a busy few months for Lane, but she is keeping her eye on the prize – and an even bigger mission.

“Porn is more mainstream than ever,” she says. “But we still haven’t changed the stereotypes that a woman can enjoy sex and that a well-adjusted person can be in porn.

“Take my parents. When the ‘ABC Primetime’ show first aired, some people thought they were bad parents because I went into porn. But I think the truth is that they’re good parents because they stuck up for me and didn’t turn their heads when I made the decision to go into this business.

“I think if I could get any message across – and as entertainers, we do have a voice – it’s to tell parents to be there for their kids, because, ultimately, they’re going to make their own decisions.”
