Get A Hoe! It's World Naked Gardening Day
MAY 1, 2008
SAN DIEGO (TNA) – Saturday is a good day to grab your hoe, strip naked and spill some seed in your garden.
It’s not what you think: May 3 just happens to be World Naked Gardening Day (WNGD), a time when gardeners are invited to get down and dirty with their soil.
WNGD was born in 2005, when creators Mark Storey and Daniel Johnson, both members of the Seattle-based Body Freedom Collaborative activist group, wanted to create a day that would follow the same idea as World Naked Bike Ride Day, which is scheduled for June 8.Scott Sorweid Porn celebrity Brenda James is one of the many folks who will be taking it all off for World Naked Gardening Day on May 3.
The nude-happy duo considered several possibilities, including “World Naked Swimming Day,” before coming up with WNGD, which falls on the first Saturday of May. It has been celebrated across the globe, including in India, England and New Zealand.
“Nearly everyone likes to garden, and everyone, we continue to believe, has daydreamed about gardening naked,” Storey said.
And you don’t have to be an expert horticulturist to let your flesh-spade dangle free among your other tools.
Storey says “naked gardening” falls under a number of activities that can be done in the buff, including: weeding vegetable beds, pruning backyard flowers, potting plants indoors, raking leaves, clearing brush, helping with environmental restoration and grooming a city park.
Although Storey emphasizes that WNGD is “100 percent a non-sexualized event,” he concedes that “people who like sex may also like gardening.”
Some prudes may not like exposing themselves to their plants, but Storey feels WNGD is needed more than ever because clothing inhibits humans from developing relations with each other, and “masks the authenticity of our humanity from one another.”
He also suggests that naked gardening reduces alienation from both our own human nature and other people,” and “is conducive to a healthy social relationship with the earth.”
Pat Brown, a member of the American Association of Nude Recreation, says that going au natural in nature isn’t just good for the soul, but good for the body as well.
“Gardening naked is great exercise, and it’s also about spiritual satisfaction,” she said. “When you’re gardening nude, you begin to understand you’re a piece of something much bigger.”
One of the folks looking forward to doffing her drawers in the garden is porn celebrity Brenda James, an on-camera MILF when she’s in Porn Valley and an avid gardener back at her Midwestern home.NeighborAffair.com Organizers say gardening nude helps a person understand they're a piece of something much bigger.
Though she’s never weeded her patch in the buff (she’s only slipped out in the middle of the night wearing her underwear), she’s planning to celebrate WNGD in her birthday suit.
“I will be out there naked, taking pictures,” James said, adding that she will be happily promoting the event by hoeing and sowing the magnolias in her front yard garden. She will also spend some time with her tree peony, which, from her description, sounds like the perfect plant for a porn celebrity.
“It’s a really twisted-looking wood,” she said.
James, who has been gardening for the last 12 years, is planning to take a master gardener’s class that, upon passing, will allow her to work with new plant species at a state-run facility (when she’s not humping for money, that is).
But just because she’s heading toward expert gardener status doesn’t mean that anybody else who’s looking to drop their drawers for WNGD this weekend needs to be a pro to get naked with a hoe.
You can water your weeds or even rake your leaves in the nude. But Brown advises wearing the proper protection – shoes, gloves and sunblock – and keeping your prick away from pricks.
“You need your head examined if you work nude with blackberry vines,” she said.
