Down A Shot Of Vodka For Boris Yeltsin
APRIL 23, 2008
AUSTIN, Texas (Wireless Flash) -- April 23 marks a year since Boris Yeltsin's death, and you can honor the former Russian president by downing shots of vodka.
Texas-based vodka distributer Burt "Tito" Beveridge says doing shots of vodka is a great way to remember the charismatic Russian leader, and believes that Yeltsin would appreciate the gesture.Flickr/mfrphoto April 23 marks a year since Boris Yeltsin died, now a Texas vodka maker wants Americans to do shots in the former Russian president's honor.
"Boris loved his vodka!" he said.
In true Russian fashion, it's best to do the honorary Yeltsin shots straight -- no chasers involved.
Beveridge says vodka will taste its best if you have it "straight out of the freezer, in a shot glass, right down the hatch."
He suggests Americans with weaker stomachs limit themselves to only a couple shots, since more experienced, vodka-drinking Russians will also be taking shots in the late leader's honor.
"In Russia, they may be drinking three bottles of vodka at a time!" he said.
But if straight vodka isn't your style, you can still toast to Yeltsin by mixing it up with cocktails like a White Russian, which combines vodka, Kahlua, and cream, or a Moscow Mule, which mixes vodka with lime juice and ginger beer.
