Alyssa Milano says she decided to play a single mom who becomes a Mafia confidant because she loves the mob.

Milano -- best known for her work on "Who's The Boss?" and "Charmed" -- stars in the new Lifetime movie "Wisegal,"
where she plays a single mom who becomes a trusted confidant to the Mafia.

The movie premieres Saturday, March 15, and Milano says she was attracted to the film because it portrays the Mafia in a new light, particularly through the eyes of a woman -- and because she loves a good Mafia story.

"I love 'The Godfather' and 'The Sopranos,'" she said. "Come on, I'm an Italian girl from Brooklyn; I have to love the Mafia!"

She was also drawn to her "Wisegal" character, Patty Montanari, because in Milano's words, "She's looking for acceptance from a family through the Mafia."

And Milano also enjoys her new film because of its accurate portrayals of both the Mafia and FBI.

The film's executive producer is Joey Pistone, the real FBI agent who infiltrated the mob upon which the Al Pacino film "Donnie Brasco" is based, and Milano got lots of inside info from Pistone during filming.
