Don't Mess With Superman's Turf

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- There's a rule of thumb for superhero impersonators on Hollywood Boulevard: Don't mess with Superman's turf.

Charlie Gruet
Maxwell Allen, Joe McQueen and Christoper Dennis make a super living dressed up as Batman, The Incredible Hulk and Superman on Hollywood Boulevard.

That's what director Matt Ogens learned while filming his documentary "Morgan Spurlock Presents...Confessions Of A Superhero," which follows four struggling actors who make their living by dressing up as superheroes and posing with tourists on Hollywood Boulevard.

And being Wonder Woman, The Incredible Hulk, Batman, and Superman is a tougher job than meets the spandex, since the gig comes with various unwritten rules.

For example, Ogens says before you put on a Superman outfit and start working the crowd in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater, you have to check with the other superhero spectacles first, since seniority rules the turf.

"This guy, Christopher Dennis, has been working as Superman on Hollywood Boulevard for 15 years," Ogens explained. "So if you come out wearing a Superman outfit, you're gonna piss him off. He was there first. The same thing goes for Batman. The Batman in our film got into tons of fights with other Batmans. It's a soap opera out there."

Other important superhero rules are to be nice to tourists, and represent your character well, which means no smoking, cursing, or begging for tips on the job.

"Confessions Of A Superhero" is currently available on DVD.
