NEW YORK (TNA) – It’s hard enough for most guys to deal with one woman, but now comes word there are actually four types of ladies.

Yes, Cosmopolitan magazine has released a new study suggesting there are currently four kinds of women in the world: “Go-for-it Girls,” “Housewife Hopefuls,” “Restless Explorers” and “Pleasure Seekers.”

This is nothing new to me – I’ve always figured there are four types of women. But I traditionally defined them as “Women I wanna screw,” “Women I don’t wanna screw,” “Women who are too young for me to screw” and “Women who are too old for me to screw.”

However, Cosmo’s polltakers (and taking poles IS a prime objective of the typical Cosmo reader) prefer to use less specific, and less saucy, terminology. Plus, their definitions presumably have the benefit of science, as opposed to my very subjective standards.

According to Cosmo, 31 percent of today’s modern women are “Go-for-it Girls,” who are most interested in making the most of their own life, regardless of whether they get married.

These are the women who believe that if they want success and a good life, they’ll have to do it themselves. “Go-for-it Girls” are career women, and the majority would rather never marry than get hitched and later divorce.

Dating such women can be great for a fling, and if you satisfy them sexually, it’s a good career move as well. Problem is, if you become serious with one, you may feel like a sad little schoolgirl if she dumps you for the boss, or worse, your intern.

On the other hand, 32 percent are “Housewife Hopefuls,” and would rather have a “Mrs. Degree” than a Ph.D.

next to their name. These ladies aren’t concerned with career success and, as such, spend their working hours either waiting to see their man or figuring out which bar to troll for a potential hubby.

These are the ladies who are dying to fritter their days away at the nail salon or pushing a stroller while their husband earns the bread (and gives it to them). You can usually find these women wearing sneaker-clogs and beaded baseball caps featuring the name of a designer, not a sports team.

Dating these women can be fun if you’re ready to settle down, mainly because they will do anything to get that ring on their finger – even let you finger their ring. But if you’re not interested in hooking up with just one woman, they can be annoying.

For one, they tend to mentally calculate the time left on their biological clock whenever you say you’d rather just stay home and watch sports – by yourself. Also, these are the women who, when you take them to the mall, would rather look at kiddie clothes from Gymboree than buy sleazy lingerie at Victoria’s Secret.

Then there are the women who call themselves “Restless Explorers.” These gals are changeable types who are constantly rotating between different men, different jobs, different living situations and, if you’re lucky, different sexual positions.

They are great in the short term, but since they’re so open to variety, there is always the possibility you will find them in flagrante delicto with your friends, neighbors or even your parents.Finally, 16 percent consider themselves “Pleasure Seekers,” and spend their waking (and sleeping) hours pursuing fun, fun, fun!

These gals are perfectly happy maintaining relationships that are purely sexual. However, this interest in pure pleasure also means these ladies are just as likely to post racy photos of themselves online, or dance atop a bar.

Dating a “Pleasure Seeker” can be exciting and fun, even exhilarating. The problem arises when and if you run out of new ways to fulfill their desires. Also, if you have even the slightest streak of conservatism, you probably don’t want to bring one of these gals home to meet mom for Thanksgiving; they’re liable to attempt a blowjob under the table while you’re carving the turkey.

Regardless of which category she falls into, today’s modern woman definitely has sex on the brain. For instance, 92 percent say women are more sexually powerful today than they were 10 years ago. Among the poll’s other findings:

-- 41 percent believe one-night stands are fine on occasion.
-- 62 percent say it’s possible to have a lasting relationship with a guy they screw on the first date.
-- 75 percent would not be bothered if they had slept with more people than their mate.
-- 27 percent have lied about the number of people with whom they’ve slept.
-- 28 percent have cheated on their partner.
-- 25 percent will dump their current beau for someone hotter, smarter or richer.
