Pregnant Brides Now Have Gowns That Fit

PHILADELPHIA (TNA) – It used to be that when an unmarried woman got pregnant and she had to run away in shame. Nowadays, she can not only stay in town, but walk down the aisle pregnant and proud.

Jennifer Garner walked
down the aisle for two.

Bridal gown designers have picked up on the shift in social mores, and are cashing in. A handful of maternity companies have recently begun featuring bridal gowns designed for pregnant women.

Says Rebecca Matthias, President of A Pea in the Pod, “Many women celebrate their wedding day when they’re expecting. Even celebrities have made getting married while expecting a trend.”

Press material from A Pea in the Pod touts one maternity wedding gown, a strapless dress with lace trim, as “the perfect picture of grace and sophistication.”

The material also states, “It’s the perfect time to celebrate the pregnant silhouette.”

Matthias credits celebrities with raising the profile of pregnant brides. “In the past, these women rarely wanted to be photographed with a baby bump,” she says.

“Now, they feel confident and proud to show their bellies, even in a wedding dress. It has really changed the industry, and it’s changed how women think about themselves.”

Among the celebrities to get married while pregnant are Jennifer Garner, Amanda Peet, and Beyonce Knowles’ sister, Solange.
