OAK PARK, Ill. (Wireless Flash) – The folks who like to reenact famous war battles are sticklers for historical accuracy – right down to the underwear.

For instance, she predicts many of the pseudo-soldiers appearing at an upcoming Civil War re-enactment taking place September 29-30 in Greenbush, Wis., will be wearing antique undies designed to look and feel like the original items (presumably without 130-year-old sweat stains).
“Period underwear are more comfortable for battle because they’re breathable and won’t stick, which makes running and fighting a whole lot easier,” Henry said.
But there’s a price for historical accuracy.
Revival Clothing charges $34.95 for a pair of “Medieval brais,” or linen boxers, that King Arthur might have worn while seeking the Holy Grail, and $99.95 for a men’s undertunic that Friar Tuck might have worn when monking around Sherwood Forrest.
For women, a form-fitting 14th century chemise that Cinderella might have worn while scrubbing her wicked stepmother’s floor sells for the princely sum of $84.95, and a Medieval underdress that looks like something worn by a nun with a bad habit goes for $94.95.
Regardless of what era of dress you want to wear, Henry stresses the importance of considering all underwear possibilities before you get your period panties in a bunch.
“You always want something close to your body, no matter what period you’re in. Linen was the best underwear fabric, but there are more options today which people should consider.”
