VERONA, Italy (Wireless Flash) – Some people have a bus pass. KT Tunstall has a “busking pass.”

The singer who gave the world hits like “Black Horse And The Cherry Tree” and “Suddenly I See,” says before she hit it big in the pop world, she was a traveling troubadour who sang her songs everywhere she could, from her native Scotland to Greece and all points beyond.

But it was in Burlington, Vt., where she really earned her street cred.

During her senior year in high school, Tunstall says she “fell for a hippie in Vermont,” and ended up living in the hills around Burlington for a summer.

There she would sing for her supper and found the local community was very supportive of her music.

That was nearly 14 years ago, but Tunstall still has a ton of love for Burlington – as does the city for her.

“I was given a lifetime busking pass, which I was very proud of,” she said.

These days, Tunstall doesn’t need to sing in the streets for her food, but she still gets out there once in a while. For instance, on Sept. 3, she took to the streets of Glasgow, Scotland.

“Obviously, I don’t need the cash, but it was a great way to raise money for a good cause,” she said.

It was also a good way to raise awareness of her new album, “Drastic Fantastic,” which hits stores on Tuesday, Sept. 11.
